The task was to support Volvo Trucks and Mack in the US throughout their geometry assurance efforts in product development projects. This was entirely new to them, but it was necessary in order to achieve the goal of shortening lead times and improving product quality.
As the necessary expertise was unavailable in the US, Netgroup planned for a front office/back office solution, where large parts of the work would be performed out of our Swedish offices via satellite. Everyone, including the US project management, were given clear roles in the project. Well considered and planned travel ensured that the message went through to design and production. For us, the setup did not present any problems, as we know what is required for effecting change – the major challenge lied in the cultural differences between Sweden and the US.
The result? We adapted the GTT CAB geometry assurance process. We used Score card to follow up the project, both internally and with our client, in order to ensure our deliverables both towards the line and towards procurement. The rest was just business as usual!
